On November 12th, Gilead Christian School hosted its annual Veterans’ Day Chapel service, inviting veterans from across the community to take part in this special celebration honoring those who have served and defended our nation at home and abroad. The Color Guard from VFW, Mount Gilead Post 8054, began our celebration with the presenting of the colors while leading the school in the pledge of allegiance. Mr. Cabanillas, joined by some GCS staff and adults from around our community, led the band along with the praise and worship team in renditions of the Marines’ Hymn, the National Anthem, and God Bless America. Pastor Dr. Wayne Evans from Gilead Friends Church continued by leading us with a few words, followed by prayer. Our veterans enjoyed a special video package highlighting those within our community who have served and/or are currently serving. Walter Malys, Commander of VFW, Mount Gilead Post 8054, was gracious enough to say a few more words in honoring our vets. The Color Guard was then called back up as they presented the 13-fold flag and described in detail the meaning behind each fold. The event was closed with a prayer by GCS Head of School, Mr. Nick Eanes, and was immediately followed by a biscuits-and-gravy breakfast served by GCS Student Council and OSA students. Our veterans and their families were able to enjoy artwork in the foyer from our K-8 students, led by our Art teachers, Mrs. Nikki Strother (K-6) and Mrs. Megan Benninger (7-8), while they ate breakfast. It was a wonderful event that brought our community together by honoring and observing our nation's heroes.

We, at Gilead Christian School, say thank you to all who have served and are serving.
